Swedish Pendant Light with Cane Wrap
A particularly large Swedish glass pendant with cane trellis wrap suspended by its original 1.5 metre gold lacquered steel rod, designed by Carl Westman for the Norrköpings Lasarett, c.1927.
Carl Westman worked primarily as an architect and was one of the leading exponents for a return to the national characteristics of architecture in Sweden. He was one of the first Swedish architects to develop the new Nordic National Romantic Style, which took cultural and building precedents and combined them with influences from the English Arts & Crafts movement, resulting a very distinct Swedish style of architecture often constructed in brick and wood. Later in his career Westman would be involved in the design of interiors as well as architecture, primarily for institutional spaces.
