Pair of Lion Mask Bookcases
A pair of Regency style open folio bookcases with lion masks, made in Douglas Fir and hand painted in Edward Bulmer’s ‘Pomona’, a wonderfully fresh colour.
Furniture, particularly from the C18th, of proportions that are stretched or distorted to suit the space they were designed for has always captured Christopher’s imagination and inspired an extension beyond classical conventions which suffer from monotony and worse.
At over 9′ tall, these bookcases are intended to raise an eyebrow, the relatively low waist, the extended top and the shrinking lion masks reflecting the scale of the room, and the tension caused by the surprisingly thin but simply adequate sides of the very functional platform-like folio base.
These bookcases can be ordered in bespoke dimensions and any colour or finish of your choice.
