A Pair of Large Oak Benches from New College Oxford
An impressive pair of early 19th Century oak benches from the dining hall at New College, Oxford, supplied during the c.1870 refurbishment by George Gilbert Scott. Monumental in size, the tops made from a single plank of oak, over three shapely plinth supports each with a faceted column carved either side, with pegged joints and braced by a single stretcher having chamfered edges, beautifully worn from years of use. In fantastic original condition, the oak having beautiful figuring, colour and wear. English, circa 1870
