A Regency Campaign Sofa
A late Regency mahogany campaign sofa, the boldly turned legs and scrolling arms with the original sprung and stitched horsehair seat, back and arms, covered in antique sail canvas retaining the original stitched seams and brass eyelets and finished with steel tacks, the outside back and arms left open to reveal the original hemp lining. In remarkably good original condition considering its history, although we have restored the upholstery and replaced the wheels with perfect handmade replicas.
Construction: The arms and back separate at seat rail level, located with loose tenons and secured below and at the top of the back with removable coach bolts. Despite the portable nature of this piece of ‘Military’ campaign furniture, once assembled and secured it remains perfectly rigid and robust, providing officers of high rank with the luxury they demanded when in the battlefield.
