For the second of our #howehosts suppers we were joined by our wonderful friends at House & Garden for a joyful winter supper.

A spicy take on an Old Fashioned cocktail on a cold drizzly day warmed us all up before we followed our noses down to the Howe kitchen for supper cooked by our wonderful Head Chef Amy & Ali.

Our general knowledge was tested by the bizarre place mats, a very famous painting…apparently.

‘Wings of Love’ by Stephen Pearson, featured in the 70’s series ‘Abigail’s Party’ of course – the inspiration for our dinner.

Mystery solved we all tucked into the first course, a refreshing salad of radicchio, gorgonzola, pear and toasted walnuts followed by a delicious main course of not one but five whole roasted ducks a l’orange. The zesty and rich jus was soaked up by a creamy celeriac and potato mash, with crispy caramelised carrots and chard. Conversation turned to the recently revealed theme for the House & Garden secret santa, and we all began to feel truly festive.

Amazingly we all managed to find just enough room for some of Amy’s beautifully intricate tarte tatin, each slice of apple like a rose petal, served with lots of pouring cream.

Plenty of leftovers as usual for staff lunch the next day, this time an entire duck!
