A Pair of Etruscan Style Bucchero Pottery Ewers, C19th/20th
Each on a ring-foot with bulbous body rising to an elongated neck and pinched spout, the simple round handle ending in a crossbar held between flat disks. The neck and shoulders of the light, thin-bodied ewers are decorated with shallow incised lines.
The blackish colour seen here is characteristic of pre-roman bucchero pottery achieved through reduction firing. Much of Picasso’s decorated ewers/pitchers were based on this form.
