A Set of Sixteen Made by Howe Gillows Side Chairs
A fantastic set of sixteen traditionally Made by Howe dining chairs, replicas made 20 years ago, of an original design by Gillows of Lancaster, the seats and backs upholstered using hand-stitched horse hair, each covered in early 20th Century kilims of Caucasian design, complete with a pink trim and brass stud detail. Raised on characteristic turned and reeded mahogany legs and brass cup castors. Very good condition, retaining their vibrant colour.
These chairs were bought back recently from a client who we made them for 20 years ago, along with the matching dining table. They remain in particularly good condition with gentle signs of wear. Interestingly, the mahogany used for the legs was of such good quality that it would be unrepeatable today without sourcing old timber. We would go as far as to say that the chairs are of such quality in terms of construction and timber colour, that they look convincingly 1830’s, having fooled even the most discerning dealers so far!
