An Aesthetic Movement swivelling Library Chair by Simpson & Sons. The horseshoe back traditionally upholstered and covered in Howe 36 Bourne Street Natural Maroc ‘Cherry’ leather, raised on a spindle-turned gallery with newel post front supports above a solid scooped seat having a matching horsehair squab cushion trimmed with handmade green tufts, revolving on a platform supported by four baluster turned legs with stylised wavy decorative incisions and braced by a spoked cross-stretcher. This chair is a rare example in excpetional condition, retaining a brass label to the underside reading ‘ART FURNITURE MANUFACTURED BY SIMPSON & SONS HALIFAX’ English circa 1870
