C18th Style Irish Stool

A wonderful Irish George II style stool by Strahan of Dublin. The square drop-in upholstered seat set into a mahogany frame, above a boldly carved shaped frieze on all sides, each centred with a carved shell typical of Irish furniture of this period and displaying carved flowers, raised on four cabriole legs with scallop shell knees, finished at the base with characteristic claw and ball feet. Recovered in two layers of fine navy blue ticking stripe, the under-layer running perpendicular thus creating a faint check. Irish, circa 1890
