An Early C19th Holland & Sons Library Armchair

A good quality George IV library armchair by Holland & Sons, one of the largest and most prolific 19th Century London cabinet makers. Constructed in richly coloured mahogany and covered in green leather, the chair has a comfortable back rest with a curved top rail and scrolled arms over an upholstered seat, on octagonal baluster turned front legs terminating in what appear to be replaced castors. The back leg stamped ‘HOLLAND & SONS MOUNT STREET LONDON’, and a later property brand ‘VR’, the back leather panel with faded gold embossing indicating this chair lived in the The British Library. English, circa 1840
