An Interesting Ceramic Tile Coffee Table by Roger Capron
An interesting ceramic tile coffee table by Roger Capron, of oval form with glazed ceramic and tiled top and wood base, in perfect original condition, French 1960s
Roger Capron was born in Paris in 1922. After graduating from the Ecole des Arts Appliques in Paris he eventually became a professor at the school. He moved to Vallauris in 1947 which, since Roman times, has been known as one of the most important centers for ceramics production in Europe. Once settled he purchased a factory in Vallauris in order to produce his own designs, where, with his friends Robert Picault and Jean Derval, he produced many ceramic works of art and later focused on architectural ceramic and products for the home. He is now recognised as a major potter of the 20th century. The diversity of his production is phenomenal, the beauty of his painted decors and geometrical tiles is particularly noticeable.
