






An Original Handyside 19th Century Cast Iron Garden Urn
An impressive 19th century cast iron urn from the Handyside Foundry, retaining its original paint and an excellent weathered patina and the original brass label inscribed ‘A HANDYSIDE & CO LIMITED, LONDON & DERBY’ This is a N°1a model, ‘Classical Campana Urn’ the body decorated with a scrolling foliate frieze and having double mask handles. In remarkably good original condition, with no chips or cracks. English, circa 1860
The Handyside Foundry based in Derby was known as one of the best of its era due to the highly skilled workers and quality of the local moulding and sand manufacturing. They manufactured London’s Albert Suspension Bridge in 1871 and were one of the first to produce the Post Office Red letterboxes!
