Early C19th Mahogany Hall Chair

An unusual early 19th Century mahogany hall chair, the scooped back with boldly carved scrolling acanthus leaves either side of an oval panel incorporating a crest of a raised hand clasping a spear below an inscription of the Campbell family motto “Arma parata fero” (I carry arms in readiness), above a waisted back centred with a panel of bold curved reeds, the oval seat of lovely patinated mahogany with a moulded ogee edge, raised on turned and tapered front legs and plain splayed back legs. Scottish, circa 1830
