Early C19th Rosewood Open Armchair
A superb quality William IV rosewood open armchair of unusual and decorative design by Miles and Edwards of Oxford Street (later Hindley & Sons), the horseshoe shaped upholstered back support sweeping down into scrolled arms supported on finely turned spindles, the broad seat having a serpentine front rail, with the unusual feature of a third central turned leg. In fabulous original condition, traditionally reupholstered using natural materials and covered in 36 Bourne Street’s squiggle print lining cotton, left partially deconstructed to expose the beautiful workmanship. Would sit beautifully in the corner of a room, or beside a fireplace. English, circa 1835
Miles & Edwards 134 Oxford Street were cabinet makers and upholsterers between 1822 and 1844. They were taken over by Charles Hindley & Sons. Their high quality cabinet makers flourished, earning them a Royal Appointment, and a part in the Great Exhibition.
