Edwardian Armchair By William Birch

A luxurious and comfortable fully sprung Edwardian armchair by William Birch of High Wycombe. The sprung back, arms and independently sprung seat edge with pure down seat cushion making this a chair to really sink into. Raised on ring turned mahogany front and outswept back legs, stamped by the maker ‘WB’, retaining original brass castors. In excellent refurbished condition, having been traditionally reupholstered in hand-stitched horsehair, lined in calico ready to be covered. English, circa 1880.

William Birch was an Arts and Crafts furniture designer and maker, specialising in chair making. His High Wycombe furniture factories were a major supplier of furniture for Liberty and Co of London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
