Grecian Chair in Tobacco leather

Available now, a Made by Howe Grecian Chair in upholstered in Tobacco leather from HOWE at 36 Bourne Street, the handcrafted oak frame in a beautiful raw finish. The durable goatskin leather has been vegetable-tanned, a traditional and slow method of tree-bark tanning which is much gentler than modern-day techniques. Finished with a light layer of natural wax, the leather over time will develop a wonderful gentle patina.

For purity, classical form, comfort and a discreet level of craftsmanship, the Grecian chair has to be my favourite, says Christopher himself. Favoured by the Regency architect and designer Thomas Hope, this ‘Klismos’ form takes inspiration from ancient Greek chairs, although we’ve only been producing it for 30 years! Completely hand crafted in oak with beech rails, the seat webbed and stuffed with horsehair and stitched into shape for hours to produce the crisp edge to the seat which will out last us all.
