‘Hundi’ Glass Globe Lantern

A beautiful, medium-size cranberry glass ‘Hundi’ lantern, the hand blown dome set within a brass collar with repoussé vitruvian scrolling pattern, capped at the base with a brass candle holder and inverted finial, suspended by three chains.

Made by Mr Sitch (Retired, Soho, London.) for Lennox Money (retired London antiques dealer) in the late 1980’s, wired with a 3-way electrical fitting, to replace the original candle for lighting light a mosque or a large Indian property, the design also adopted in Britain in the late C18th/early C19th.

The word ‘Hundi’ or ‘Handi’ is an Indian term for a type of vessel.
