Original Morris Style Sussex Armchair
An original Arts & Crafts Morris style Sussex armchair, the ebonised beech frame having a floral painted back rail and ten decorative splayed faux bamboo spokes, above a cane seat with conforming arms, raised on four tapering faux bamboo legs connected via stretchers. In good overall condition. England, circa 1900.
The Sussex chair was designed in 1860 by Phillip Webb and manufactured by Morris & Co. William Morris and his wife, Jane, used Sussex chairs in their first home, Red House, Kent.
