Regency Gothic Oak Side Chair
A rare Regency Gothic side chair after a design by George Smith carved in oak, having an arched top rail with a tracery backrest over an upholstered seat, the front and side rails having carved panels, each corner of the front legs headed by quatrefoil paterae, raised on hexagonal front and swept back legs, the front terminating in carved and lobed feet. The seat covered in our 36 Bourne Street ‘split pea’ leather some time ago, faded by the sun to a lovely yellowy colour, finished with a space nailed green braid. In excellent sturdy original condition, having one small old knock to the side rail, but really lovely quality and rarely available to buy as generally dealers will hold on to such good examples. English, circa 1820.
