A Georgian Fruitwood Side Table

The plain, rectangular fixed top on a tripod pedestal base, the plain turned column with ring-
turning at its top and base raised on cabriole legs ending in slender pad feet.

Quality fruitwoods from mature apple and pear trees for example can yield spectacular results in furniture-making. The timber is sturdy, stable, and long-lasting with well-chosen planks producing beautifully figured surfaces, as is the case with this table.

In addition to being used in the construction of tables, chairs, and case furniture, fruitwoods are also associated with intricate marquetry inlays where contrasting colours
and textures are required. These woods are also sought after in the making of musical instruments, due to their high density and resonant properties.
