Original Polished Steel 1209 Anglepoise

An unusual example of a model 1209 Anglepoise Lamp manufactured by Herbert Terry & Sons, Redditch, England c.1935-40.

This design was originally developed as a prototype by George Carwardine and sold under his own company ‘Cardine Accessories Ltd’ in Bath between 1928-30, prior to his collaboration with Herbert Terry & Sons, which would lead to the development of the iconic Anglepoise Lamp. This model was slightly adapted and improved upon when Cardawine began to work with Herbert Terry & Sons and renamed the 1208, which developed into the 1209; this example unusual in having a chromed arm, differing from the typical painted finish.
