An absolutely MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who helped us make Tuesday’s pancake fundraiser for Save the Rhino International such a success!

We went flippin’ mad making over 200 tasty organic spelt pancakes to feed our hungry, donating guests, with topping for every time of day – Bergamot lemon and coconut sugar or nutella and banana, followed by ham and gruyere cheese at lunchtime, finally finishing the day with afternoon high tea of raspberry jam and whipped cream – my personal favourite combination.

On Tuesday we hosted a fundraiser in the shop for a charity very close to my heart. Having lost over 95% of the worlds Rhino population in the pasty century, the situation is grave. Save the Rhino has a vision of all five rhino species thriving in the wild for future generations, and this is a vision I support wholeheartedly.

Whilst we filled hungry bellies with tasty pancakes, the handmade crocheted rhinos melted hearts, not least those of the HOWE staff. Every rhino is made by local ladies in a Zambian women’s cooperative, which helps rural women to develop a sustainable livelihood by producing organic cotton crochet toys, these toys are each named after a real rhino living in North Luangwa National Park. Who could say no to those googgly eyes! While we sold clean out you can still buy them from this link.

Everyone full of pancakes and collection pots full of change, the day was such a success. I am proud to say that in total we raised £1004.61 for Save the Rhino International and would like to thank everyone who got involved!!!

If you missed a pancake fear not, we are in the midst of making homemade marmalade, of which the profit will go to Save the Rhino, so please pop in and get yourself a jar!
