1960s Fornasetti Zodiac Porcelain Plate, Capricorn
A beautiful and rare 1960s porcelain plate designed by Piero Fornasetti, the first in his series of twelve Zodiac designs ‘Gli influssi Astrali’ (translating to ‘Astral Influences’) made for Corisia between 1964 to 1975.
The plate in black and gold depicts the astrological sign of Capricorn, the ‘sea-goat’, a mythical creature said to be half-goat and half-fish, intertwined with scrolling Italian words, stating the calendar dates and personality traits associated with this star sign being that of perseverance and misanthropy.
In excellent condition, the mark to the underside in white on a gilt roundel ‘Gli/Influssi/Astrali-Se/rie Specialmen/Te Creata Da/Piero Fornasetti/Por/Corisia/1964 N 1 (gilders mark 11)’
