A Modernist Occasional Table and Magazine Rack
A mid-20th Century occasional table and magazine rack formed out of a single piece of bent plywood, with original white paint. Probably English, circa 1950.
This table would have been designed and produced in the wake of the modern industrial period when modernist architects and designers began to exploit and celebrate plywood’s ability to be shaped into strong curved forms. This piece is a wonderful example of the material’s qualities, combining lightness, flexibility and strength.
