C18th Louis XVI Demi Lune Games Table
A fine and rare Louis XVI demi lune games table. A fascinating mix of different woods, this table really tells a story. The top a mix of padouk and rosewood, the chequer board comprised of boxwood, with a thin chequered border of ebony and boxwood, the outside border in tulipwood, with 100 year old repairs in walnut. Standing on four cabriole legs, the back leg pulling out to reveal a compartment to store chess or draught/checker pieces, a curved recess underneath the centre (now covered and veneered over in walnut), was perhaps for hiding your hand during a game. The top folding out, to reveal a pale green silk damask, covering the remains of old baize. French, circa 1780
