C19th Captain’s Windsor Armchair

A particularly comfortable 19th Century beech Captain’s low back armchair or “Bow’ with downward curved arms and bow back crowned with a simple accommodating curved back rest, connected by nine turned spindles over a scooped seat, raised on turned front legs and splayed elliptical back legs, braced on each side by pairs of stretchers, the front pair being of conforming spindles and reinforced by discreet metal rods. English, circa 1880

Captain’s chairs are so called because the early models were used on ships for high ranking officers.
