C19th Faux Rosewood Portfolio Stand
A wonderful and really quite unusual 19th Century portfolio stand, bearing the original paper trade label of eminent London maker, ‘GRAPHOTEQUE COMPANY, PORTLAND STREET, THE REGENTS PARK’, made of pine and painted to imitate rosewood, having one adjustable upright support for the display of books, prints or fine art on three stepped ledges, raised on baluster turned supports connected via rectangular stretchers with a conforming under tier for useful storage, terminating in original brass castors. In very good condition, considering that the softwood frame bears very little wear and the faux grain finish is near perfect ~ a very interesting and unique piece of gallery furniture that has obviously lived a very charmed life! English, circa 1830
