Elveden Easy Armchair
The Elveden Easy Chair is generous indeed and overscaled to suit both the original owner Sikh Maharaja Duleep (or Dalip) Signh and his spectacular stately home Elveden Hall, Suffolk, which he redecorated with characteristic exuberance in 1863. Designed by Howard & Sons as the most luxurious of all Easy Chairs, we are committed to upholding those exceptional standards of craftsmanship and quality of materials; the beech frame has proper joints which won’t work loose, set on turned legs in a choice of mahogany or oak, raised on our own HOWE brass castors. Within the multi-layered back as in the seat, woven webbing supports a series of hand lashed springs. These are covered by long horsehair stitched into a linen scrim casing over which is laid a down filled pad before the final covering. The arms are stuffed and stitched into shape with horsehair and the pocketed seat cushions filled with maximum down, minimum feather content for ultimate comfort.
Choose from a range of wonderful materials from Howe at 36 Bourne Street for the carefully tailored covering, or if you’d prefer to use another fabric all together we’ll be happy to advise you on suitability.
