George IV Parcel-Gilt Open Armchair in the French Style
An early 19th Century English armchair in the fashionable French style of the time, having a tall buttoned back, over a generous deep seat, the open arms each with padded upholstered rests, carved with scrolling acanthus decorated with gilt on a cream ground, raised on cabriole front and swept curved back legs, with conforming decoration. Traditionally reupholstered, using quality natural materials, covered in a pristine antique French silk damask with a repeating design of pinky red and yellow peonies and scrolling fronds, edged with an off-white strand gimp trim. The seat finished with an additional buttoned seat pad in the same fabric, the reverse a grey beetled linen, with a beautiful hand-stitched edge finished with little hand tied silk covered buttons.
