Set of Ten Low Windsor Armchairs
A composite set of ten low back Windsor chairs each with yew frames and having a pierced double splat back, spindles and a deep bow, above an elm scooped seat, raised on spindle turned legs and braced by a crinoline stretcher. Two stamped Nicholson Rockley English, circa 1830
George Nicholson took over the workshop in Rockley, North Nottinghamshire, from William Wheatland in 1830. It is an area well known for making Windsor chairs of exceptional quality in the early part of 19th Century.
