St. Bernard
Larger than life and gorgeously sumptuous, the St. Bernard is copied meticulously from a pair of Victorian armchairs Christopher Howe acquired from a huge Scottish ‘pile’ still covered in their original red tattered silk damask. Honouring the chair’s symbolic origin, we’ve filled the seat cushions with copious measures of down mixed with a little feather for weight. The body is traditionally stuffed and hand stitched with horsehair over steel coil springs individually lashed to the best quality webbing; we go to town using springs not only in the seat and back but also on the arms, the seat even has an individually sprung front edge making it incomparably comfortable.
Every part of the St Bernard is made and put together in our own workshop, from the frame construction to the last upholstery details, and even our own HOWE brass castors. It wears our HOWE London label proudly in the hope that successive generations enjoy its enduring style, craftsmanship and comfort.
Craftsmanship and quality are absolutely central to everything we do at Howe London and we are passionate about promoting and preserving traditional skills, click here to read more.Dimensions
