Gothic Revival Oak Writing Table

An exceptional Gothic Revival writing table almost certainly designed by A.W.N Pugin and made by George Myers. The emphasis of this table being the revealed jointing system and the use of Gothic detailing both typical qualities of the Arts and Crafts movement. The rectangular top with a moulded edge above two frieze drawers, each corner with cross lap joints, above arched supports raised on bracket feet, united by a stretcher all hand carved and finished with chamfered edges and echoing the carving used elsewhere on the table. In the most beautifully selected honey coloured quarter-sawn oak in perfect original condition. English, circa 1840

Provenance: Dinton Hall, Buckinghamshire.
