A pair of Ebonised Bombay Deco Armchairs
Bombay was one of the great Art Deco cities of the 1930s, paving the way for a rise of uniquely styled modern furniture that made use of the incredibly good wood and skilled craftsmanship that India has in abundance.
The movement saw a combination of Western trends with Indian ideas and culture, meaning that even today the pieces sit oh so comfortably within an eclectic and varied mix of interiors. Utilitarian and with characteristic sleek lines, this comfortable armchair has a lightweight and ebonised beech frame, a modern shape, sweeping arms that lead into squared legs and a statement hand-caned back – a laborious process in itself.
The very deep and luxurious handmade seat cushions slot neatly in place, covered in a bold antique Swedish stipe in pink and red, and filled with a luxurious mix of down and feather. Available as a pair but can be purchased individually.
