A Pair of Gillows Mahogany Dining Tables, stamped ‘GILLOWS LANCASTER’. English, c.1840
A pair of very useful and versatile mahogany dining tables by Gillows of Lancaster. The rectangular tops with reeded edges above a shallow crossbanded frieze, with conforming reeded moulding, each table supported on slender reeded legs raised on the original brass cup castors. The tables have clips at each end so they can be connected to form a long rectangle (dimensions shown below), or alternatively side to side to create a wider dining format. Numbered ivorine labels, fixed to the under frame “331” “332” suggest institutional inventory numbers such a museum or library, and retain makers stamp ‘GILLOWS LANCASTER’. English, circa 1840
