C18th Walnut Corner Chair
An exceptionally good looking 18th Century walnut corner chair, the horseshoe shaped back with out-scrolling arms and a bold shaped crest, supported on three turned gun-barrel columns between beautifully restrained and figured splats, over a drop-in seat set into a seat rail with moulded top edge and simple shaped aprons, raised on three elegantly shaped and turned legs with pad feet, the front leg having shell-carved knee, all united by an X frame stretcher of turned spindles. The even overall colour and dry patina of the oxidised walnut being particularly appealing and harmonious with the seat, now recovered in 36 Bourne Street ‘Cherry’ Maroc leather, this skin having a particularly interesting old texture. English, circa 1740
