Irish Hunt Table
This elegant 18th Century drop-leaf table transforms from a generous, sociable oval dining table to a slim, easily manoeuvrable side table. Popular at the time as they could be easily set aside to make space for entertaining, or carried outside to host drinks after a hunt. Also known as a ‘Wake’ table for the same practical reasons, but also because it’s folded proportion was perfectly suited to displaying a coffin before a burial.
Set on a solid frieze and standing on square legs with additional gate legs that swing out to support the leaves when opened.
The example shown in the second picture is made from reclaimed solid Cuban mahogany, based on an original design from 1760. Also available in oak and sapele.
