Pair of C18th Cockpen Chairs

A fabulous pair of 18th Century ebonised ‘Cockpen’ armchairs, each with a lattice back over a plain seat finished with a moulded edge and a delightful shaped apron to three sides, flanked by curved high arms, raised on plain straight front legs and splayed back legs all with appealing chamfering detail. English, circa 1770

‘So called ‘Cockpen chairs are a specific version of the Chinese Chippedale design made popular by Thomas Chippendale, named after pew chairs with a lattice design in the Cockpen Church, Cockpen, Midlothian, Scotland,.’ The British Antique Dealers’ Association.
