Panel Back Windsor Chair
The Windsor is one of the most archetypal of English vernacular chairs. It was made in components, namely ‘spindles’ and ‘bows’, which were turned and steam bent by the ‘Bodgers’ who lived and worked in the woods, managing and coppicing the trees. The parts were supplied to workshops in the nearby town who assembled the chair and added the seat. This particular form of Windsor, known as a ‘comb back’, has the unique feature of an upholstered panel in the back incorporating our own Morocco grain leather from Howe at 36 Bourne Street, available in a gorgeous range of colours.
The Panel Back Windsor chair is produced for us by a traditional Windsor chair maker. It is crafted by hand using solid oak and ash, giving the chair visibly superior craftsmanship and the resilience to withstand heavy use, whilst the skate stuffed leather panel back makes this chair extraordinarily comfortable. The result is a piece of furniture that will survive generations only to improve through use.
