Gainsborough Chair
A respectful rendition of a traditional 18th Century Gainsborough Chair – one with great character, a high back and open sides. Incredibly comfortable, the original design is thought to be named after British portraitist Thomas Gainsborough, allowing his sitters a touch of indulgence when posing for long durations.
Traditionally hand made in one of our specialist British workshops, faithfully adhering to 18th century methods, constructed in mahogony or oak. The base and back are upholstered using hand-stitched horsehair, and covered in your choice of fabric.
The Gainsborough chair comes in a straight or serpentine back. Also available in a smaller size, see Compact Gainsborough.
