Designing The Howe Kitchen
“This kitchen collaboration was a culmination of inspiration that was simmering if not BUBBLING away for a long time” Christopher Howe
The idea of the kitchen collaboration with Plain English came about from living with a dismal excuse for a kitchen with an ever growing number of staff and really wanting to encourage them to eat great food. When thinking of how the kitchen could be redesigned, it seemed to creep further and further into the showroom, until the penny dropped. It had to be the whole of the space downstairs and be totally integrated. We were already working with Plain English within our interior projects and felt their design ethos and dedication to craftsmanship was so much in keeping with our approach.
To complete the kitchen, Christopher carefully sourced functional reclaimed materials and hardware; salvaged pitch pine runs the length of the worktop which is developing a beautiful lived-in patina whilst the utility room draining board was created from reclaimed teak. A blackened steel shelf fit just perfectly above the new Wolf range cooker and nice old refurbished taps to go with the large preparation sink. Finding a really good pair of old taps that match is actually much harder than it sounds. So, in the end, Christopher set on a perfectly mismatched hot and cold, which only adds to the charm.
